Teaching an old dog new tricks
Dr. David Kanter will present the initial results of a project with Columbia Law School and other collaborators focused on reducing nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions in the U.S. N2O is the third most abundantly emitted greenhouse gas and the largest remaining threat to the stratospheric ozone layer, and yet there has been no mention of N2O in the research underpinning President Obama’s current strategy of limiting greenhouse gas emissions using existing legislation. The goal of this project, therefore, is to identi-fy the most promising legal avenues in the U.S. for reducing N2O emissions and quan-tifying the environmental and economic impacts of pursuing them.
David Kanter is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Columbia University’s Earth Insti-tute. He received his B.Sc. in Chemistry and Law from the University of Bristol and his Ph.D. in Science, Technology and Environmental Policy from Princeton University. He will start as an Assistant Professor in Environmental Policy at NYU in September.
