20 Years's after the last World Women's Conference in Beijing 1995 it is time to look at the progress in gender equality and women's empowerment. But we also have to address the challenges. Why is there only a commemorative session of the UN and not a new World Women's Conference? What can be done to enhance the role of Women in the society, poli-tics and the economy? The lecture will address these questions and the way forward, e.g. the "post 2015 Development Agenda", the UN Women Peace Security agenda (SC Res. 1325 and following).
