Interests that are a good basis for this study programme
After completing your bachelor’s programme, if you want to delve deeper into the latest topics being addressed by basic research or technical applications, and are interested in one of the five areas of specialisation available – astrophysics, atmospheric physics and climate, experimental physics, space physics and aeronomy, or theoretical and computational physics – then this is the right study programme for you. You need to have completed a subject-relevant first degree.
Physics at the University of Graz
In the master’s programme you will investigate the fundamental laws of the world, from the smallest building blocks of matter, to nanomaterials, the Earth’s climate system and the largest structures in the universe. You will also explore the breadth of contexts in which the laws of nature apply, as well as experimental, theoretical and computer-oriented methods.
Doctoral Programme of Natural Sciences
The Doctoral Programme of Natural Sciences allows you to develop your own research interests further and to perfect your methodological skills. You will work independently to investigate academic questions and contribute to the development of knowledge and innovation in your subject area.
Preparation for a wide range of career paths
As a highly qualified physicist you will be able to work in the academic world, business or industry, either in Austria or abroad. Career options include roles (including management roles) in public or private institutions for education and research in the field of technical physics, in major international research collaborations, in modelling, simulation and algorithm development in various fields, research and development departments in industry and the high-tech sector, administration and logistics, or in corporate consulting and quality control.
