Interests that are a good basis for this study programme
A basic interest in the diversity of life will help you understand the processes that go on in the environment and in evolutionary biology. You should also be inquisitive and ready to learn and enjoy networked thinking.
Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Graz
Biodiversity is an important resource for Planet Earth. The master’s programme explains how biodiversity is created (evolution), how it works (ecology) and what it is being threatened by. You will be able to specialise in either ecology or evolutionary biology depending on your personal interests.
Doctoral Programme of Natural Sciences
The Doctoral Programme of Natural Sciences allows you to develop your own research interests further and to perfect your methodological skills. You will work independently to investigate academic questions and contribute to the development of knowledge and innovation in your subject area.
Preparation for a wide range of career paths
Graduates of the master’s programme find work in various areas of research and business that differ depending on their individual specialisations. Relevant professions and areas of activity include research and teaching at (non-)university institutions, environmental or evolutionary modelling, consultancy or writing expert reports, recording, analysing and presenting plant and animal populations using IT, evolutionary reconstruction, paternity and relationship testing, pharmacological and biomedical applications, environmental education, academic and administrative roles in collections and museums, and species conservation (national parks, nature reserves, zoos and botanical gardens).
