To be able to borrow books from the various branches of the University Library, you need a library card. For students, the UNIGRAZCard also functions as your library card, but it does need to be activated initially through UNIGRAZonline, under the menu option “Services” (Dienste).
For researching and finding books we use an online search machine, unikat. This lists any materials of relevance to your search, in any University Library location. Books held in the main library can be reserved and ordered through this system.
In the various faculty and institute libraries, most of the books are on freely accessible shelves. These can be borrowed directly from those locations. Please note: certain resources (e.g. dictionaries, periodicals) are freely accessible, but can only be used in the library, and are not available to take home.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis and the associated hygiene measures, seats and study places in all locations of the University Library must be booked in advance. If you are just coming to the library to borrow books, you don’t need a reservation.
The various faculty and subject-specialist libraries are located in different buildings on and around the campus. It is worth familiarising yourself with these locations. Sometimes you can find useful resources outside the specialist library for your own subject area!
