Mehr als zu Recht

Lange Zeit war das Recht sowohl an Universitäten als auch in der Praxis eine reine Männerdomäne. An der Uni Graz ist Anita Ziegerhofer die erste Frau, die die Professur für Rechtsgeschichte erhielt. Die Initiative „Women in Law“ vernetzt Juristinnen weltweit und verleiht jährlich den Justitia Award an Frauen in Rechtsberufen. Heuer ging die Auszeichnung an Anita Ziegerhofer in der Kategorie „Academia“.

Seit knapp vier Jahrzehnten lehrt und forscht die Rechtshistorikerin Anita Ziegerhofer an der Universität Graz, seit 2021 als Professorin für Rechtsgeschichte. Einen besonderen Fokus legt sie auf die Zeit vom 19. Jahrhundert bis in die Gegenwart. Unter anderem auf die Entwicklung von Verfassungen weltweit, die Europäische Union und Frauenrechte. Für ihre herausragenden Leistungen, mit denen sie die Gleichstellung von Frauen und Männern in Rechtsberufen maßgeblich fördert, wurde Ziegerhofer mit dem Justitia Award 2024 ausgezeichnet.

Bei der Verleihung unterstrich die Preisträgerin die weitreichende Bedeutung des Themas: „Equality between men and women is an essential prerequisite for the functioning of democracy. It is therefore all the more important that women are not only equal before and in the law, but also through the law.“

Justitia Award 2024
In drei Kategorien waren 151 Juristinnen aus 31 Ländern für die Justitia Awards nominiert. Aus diesen kürte die Jury drei österreichische und drei internationale Preisträgerinnen.

Researcher Hussam Habib is investigating how social media platforms use algorithms to evoke emotions, capture attention, and disseminate content in a targeted manner. Born in Pakistan, he came to the University of Graz on an APART-USA scholarship from the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Thanks to new EU regulations, the scientist hopes to gain deeper insight into the mechanisms behind YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, and other platforms.
