Was wir anziehend finden: Mode ist auch ein Statement, erklärt Soziologe Stephan Moebius

Kleider machen Leute, heißt es. Was die Wissenschaft dazu zu sagen hat, führt der Soziologe Stephan Moebius im UNIZEIT-Interview aus. „Es gibt keine ,bedeutungslose‘ Kleidung“, bekräftigt der Wissenschaftler die Rolle von Mode auch als Statement.

Welche Funktion hat Mode, Herr Professor Moebius?
„Soziologisch betrachtet, gleich mehrere. Erstens integriert sie eine Person in eine gesellschaftliche Gruppe und verleiht damit Wahrnehmung und Respekt. Mode und bestimmte Modestile dienen somit dem Bedürfnis nach sozialer An-Erkennung und Ähnlichkeit innerhalb der Gemeinschaft. Zweitens kann Mode Sicherheit geben, wenn man sich zum Beispiel den gruppenspezifischen Trends angleicht und den kollektiven Erwartungen anpasst. Drittens kann sie zugleich eine Wandlungsfunktion erfüllen, indem sie Motor für Neuerungen ist. Denn Mode dient auch zur Abgrenzung und Unterscheidung von anderen Gruppen sowie als Ausdruck von Individualität – ihre vierte Funktion –, und das geschieht oft mit viel Kreativität.“
