(Holotypus in GZU). -- Arthrorhaphis alpina var. jungens is an exact
morphological intermediate between var. alpina and A. vacillans (etym.:
jungere = connecting). A section through the yellow esorediate thallus
shows - as in var. alpina and in A. vacillans - a white medullary layer
composed of Ca-oxalate-crystals. The new variety differs from var.
alpina by the shorter spores, (14-)17-25(-28) µm, and fewer septa
(3-5). From A. vacillans the new taxon is separated by the rougher
apothecial disc, the somewhat thicker margin, the longer asci (80-110
µm) and the slightly longer spores which are occasionally more
than 3-septate. Var. jungens frequently shows beside the typical
vacillans spores (16-20(-22) µm and 3 septa) both longer ones
with 3 septa and equally sized spores with often 4-5(-7) septa. As in
A. alpina some spores with aberrations may occur (Fig. 1, bottom). Due
to the external appearance of the apothecia, the relatively long asci
and the tendency to form more than 3 septa, the taxon is described as a
variety of A. alpina.

OBERMAYER,
W. 2001: Lichenotheca Graecensis, Fasc. 9 (Nos 161 - 180). - Fritschiana 25: 1 - 6.
Abstract:
Lichenotheca Graecensis (Fascicle 9) comprises 20 lichen collections
(including one lichenicolous fungus) from the following countries (and
administrative subdivisions): Austria (Salzburg; Styria; Upper
Austria), Brazil (Parana State), China (Tibet, Prov. Xizang; Prov.
Sichuan), Russia (Komi Republic; Krasnoyarsk Territory), and Spain
(Canary Islands). TLC-data are presented for Lethariella cladonioides
and Usnea longissima. Allocetraria globulans and Usnea longissima are
issued as a part of the results of the 'Sino-Austrian Joint Expedition
to the SE-Tibetan Fringe Mountains (=Hengduan Shan), Sichuan Province,
China (July/August 2000)' and the 'Sino-German Joint Expedition to
Southeastern and Eastern Tibet 1994' respectively.
The exsiccata series
Lichenotheca Graecensis is distributed on a basis of exchange to the
following 20 herbaria and private collections (herbarium abbreviations
follow http://www.nybg.org/bsci/ih/searchih.html): ASU, B, C, CANB,
CANL, E, ESS, G, GZU, H, HMAS, LE, M, MAF, MIN, O, TNS, UPS, Dr. K.
Kalb, Dr. A. Vezda. Abbreviations of authors of plant names are taken
from http://django. harvard.edu:/huh/author.html. Names of countries
and states (or provinces or principial subdivisions) are based upon a
list from http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/geolist.pl. A text
version of Lichenotheca Graecensis is kept under
http://www-ang.kfunigraz.ac.at/~oberma/li-grz1.htm.
I am much indebted to
the following collectors who have made their collections available:
Bernhard DICKORÉ, Josef HAFELLNER (who also kindly determinated
one lichenicolous fungus), Hector S. OSORIO, and Mikhail ZHURBENKO.
The expeditions of the
author to southeastern Tibet in 1994 and in 2000 were supported by the
Austrian Science Fund (project numbers P09663-BIO and P13676-BIO).

Lichenotheca Graecensis, Fasc. 10 & 11 (Nos 181 - 220). - Fritschiana 33: 1 - 14.
Abstract: Fascicles 10
& 11 of Lichenotheca Graecensis comprise 36 collections of lichens
and 4 lichenicolous fungi (Dactylospora inquilina; Rhagadostoma
lichenicola, Stigmidium psorae and Telogalla olivieri) from the
following countries (and administrative subdivisions): Austria
(Carinthia; Salzburg; Styria; Tirol; Upper Austria), China (Tibet,
Prov. Sichuan), Croatia, Germany (Niedersachsen), Russia (Eastern
Siberia; Komi-Republic; Krasnoyarsk-Territory; Murmansk-Region), Spain
(Canary Islands), Sweden (Norrbotten), Switzerland (Valais), United
States (Alaska; Florida; Oklahoma). TLC-analyses were carried out for
Canoparmelia salacinifera, Cladonia coccifera, Cladonia macilenta ssp.
macilenta, Cladonia squamosa var. squamosa, Lethariella cf. canariensis
and Pseudevernia furfuracea var. ceratea. All issued specimens of
Candelaria concolor and Pseudevernia furfuraceae var. ceratea bear
apothecia. Masonhalea richardsonii consists of sorediate material, of
which an image is presented. Nephromopsis morrisonicola is distributed
as a part of the results of the 'Sino-Austrian Joint Expedition to the
SE-Tibetan Fringe Mountains (=Hengduan Shan), Sichuan Province, China
(July/August 2000)'.
The exsiccata series
'Lichenotheca Graecensis' is distributed on exchange basis to the
following 20 herbaria and private collections (herbarium abbreviations
follow http://www.nybg.org/bsci/ih/searchih.html): ASU, B, C, CANB,
CANL, E, ESS, G, GZU, H, HMAS, LE, M, MAF, MIN, O, TNS, UPS, Dr. Klaus
Kalb, Dr. Antonin V?zda. Abbreviations of authors of plant names are
taken from http://www.huh.harvard.
edu/databases/cms/botanist_index.html. Names of countries and states
(or provinces or principial subdivisions) are based upon a list from
http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/geolist.pl. A text version of
Lichenotheca Graecensis can be found under

OBERMAYER W. 2003:
Lichenotheca Graecensis, Fasc. 12 & 13 (Nos 221 - 260). - Fritschiana 43: 1 - 12.
Abstract:
Fascicles 12 & 13 of Lichenotheca Graecensis comprise 40
collections of lichens from the following countries (and administrative
subdivisions): Austria (Carinthia; Lower Austria; Salzburg; Styria),
Croatia (Rab Island), Germany (Bavaria), Greece (Kos Island), Italia
(Trentino-Alto Adige), Portugal (Madeira), Russia (Buryatia;
Krasnoyarsk; Tatarstan), Spain (Canary Islands), Uruguay (Florida;
Rocha), and United States of America (Alaska). TLC-analyses were
carried out for Chrysothrix candelaris, Ch. chlorina, Cladonia
arbuscula ssp. squarrosa, C. gracilis, and Lepraria lobificans.
The
exsiccata series 'Lichenotheca Graecensis' is distributed on exchange
basis to the following 20 herbaria and private collections (herbarium
abbreviations follow http://www.nybg.org/bsci/ih/searchih.html): ASU,
B, C, CANB, CANL, E, G, GZU, H, HAL, HMAS, LE, M, MAF, MIN, O, TNS,
UPS, Dr. Klaus Kalb, Dr. Antonin Vezda. Please note that, due to the
recent transfer of all lichen material in ESS to HAL, future fascicles
will be sent to HAL. Abbreviations of authors of plant names are taken
from http://www.huh.harvard.edu/databases/cms/botanist_index.html.
Names of countries and states (or provinces or principal subdivisions)
are based upon a list from
http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/geolist.pl. A text version of
Lichenotheca Graecensis can be found under
http://www-ang.kfunigraz.ac.at/~oberma/li-grz1.htm. Label texts
originally drafted in a local language have been translated into
English by the author.
I wish
to thank all persons who have made their lichen material available,
particularly Helmut Mayrhofer, Josef Hafellner, Hector S. Osorio,
Harrie Sipman, Roman Türk, Gennadii P. Urbanavichus, and Mikhail
Zhurbenko. Peter Kosnik kindly assisted with TLC investigations.

complex is missing in one sample. The present taxon strongly resembles Lobaria pulmonaria in shape of thallus
and in shape and development of young soralia. L.
'parapulmonaria' differs in the brown colour of the thallus (due
to cyanobacteria), the slightly dorsiventrally flattened isidia-like
structures
(cylindrical in European material of L.
pulmonaria), and the occurrence of two terpenoids (retigeranic acid
A and
?retigeranic acid B) in rather high concentration. The taxon can be
regarded as
a close relative of L. pulmonaria but
containing cyanobacteria as the major photobiont. 20.VIII.1994, leg. & det. W. Obermayer (10581).
