IMPORTANT ELEMENTS IN ACCEPTANCE
The following factors are important for decisions on acceptance to the school.
- Evaluation Committee:
Given the limited funds and seating, the acceptance to the school is competitive, and based on review of the application by an
acceptance committee including reviewers outside the school organization. The web-application form and letter of
recommendation are the only documents needed to be submitted in the application process.
- Letter of Recommendation:
A letter of recommendation from advisor, supervisor, or significant
teacher in fields related to the school focus is necessary and plays an
important role.
- Key criteria:   The following criteria play a role in decisions on attendance to the school.
- Current studies of applicant: The primary criterion focuses on current or past
PhD research related to the school scientific focus or which prepares the applicant for benefiting from the topics of
the school. A level of educational training which indicates the applicant can manage the
technical level of the school is also important. Well-prepared Master students can also be considered.
- Motivation:
Applicants should exhibit a strong motivation and rationale for seeking training in
the areas of the school focus.
- Activity in the areas of the school focus: Publications and presentations at
meetings in scientific subject areas related to the focus areas of the school are important. Attendance at scientific meetings also
is of value.
- Vita: The short vita that is to be included in the web-application questions
should exhibit a level of training sufficient for the school. In addition, scholarly work is important. The potential for the
applicant to contribute perspectives to discussions is also considered.
- Balance: The EU seeks regional balance
and broad representation from EU and EU associated countries. Dissemination
of support to less-developed areas is important. A fair balance in gender is
important as well. Balance is also sought between applicants at the student
(primarily PhD) level, new Post-doctoral researchers, and more experienced
researchers.
