General Information

Philosophy systematically reflects on forms and structures of human knowledge and on epistemological and scientific presuppositions.

As a theoretical discipline, philosophy analyzes and critically reflects the fundamental conceptual and theoretical presuppositions, the categorial framework of thinking and acting. Our department covers the following theoretical subjects: epistemology, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science.

As a practical discipline, philosophy focuses mainly on questions of meaning and value in human life. Our study programmes include the following practical subjects: aesthetics, ethics, feminist philosophy, political philosophy, philosophy of culture, and philosophy of religion.

As philosophical thought systems, historically, have always had a great impact on the human self-concept and value-orientation, great importance is attributed to the area of history of philosophy.
