Academic Programmes and Courses at the Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law  and centres or entities linked to the Faculty offer a number of academic programmes and courses in law.

The Faculty has not yet implemented the Bologna BA/MA model and, therefore, does not offer a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme in Austrian law. Instead, it offers a four-year diploma programme leading to the Magister der Rechtswissenschaften degree and a three-year doctoral programme leading to the Doktor der Rechtswissenschaften degree.

Besides, several other programmes and courses concluding with different degrees and qualifications are organised at or in cooperation with the Faculty. See below for a comprehensive list.



Magister Programme in Law

Four-year law programme leading to the “Magister der Rechtswissenschaften” degree. Degree is awarded upon completion and positive assessment of three diploma examinations and the positive assessment of a diploma thesis. (German curriculum)


Doctoral Programme in Law

Three-year postgraduate law programme leading to the “Doktor der Rechtswissenschaften” degree. Degree is awarded after positive assessment of a doctoral dissertation and a viva examination. (German curriculum) (English outline)


Master in South East European Law & European Integration

Three-semester postgraduate programme with a focus on South East Europe and further EU enlargement leading to the degree “Master of Laws in Sout East European Law and European Integration (LL.M.)”. For more information click here.


Master in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies

Two-year postgraduate programme in the field of gender studies leading to the “Master of Arts” degree. For more information click here.


Master in Global Studies

Two year postgraduate programme leading to the "Master of Arts" degree. This programme is designed to provide students with an understanding of the globalisation phenomenon in its multiple dimensions (economy, culture, society, international law, international politics, sustainable development). Two-year postgraduate programme in the field of the law of art and culture leading to the "Master of Arts" degree. Form more information click here.
