17 July – 31 July 2011 The fourth edition of the GUSS-International Summer School, coordinated by the University of Graz’s Center for Inter-American Studies (C.IAS), took place at Seggau Castle, near Leibnitz, Austria from July 17th to July 31st, 2011. This year the International Summer School on the Americas brought together twelve faculty members and guest lecturers and 58 students of twenty-five nationalities for a two-week summer program. The seminars offered in 2011 were: Film, Literature, Identities, Economics, and Sustainability. One of the main changes to the previous years was that this fourth edition of the summer school was funded as an ERASMUS Intensive Program (IP), applied by the University of Graz. The International Summer School on the Americas was carried out in cooperation with partner institutions of higher education in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, France, Romania, Slovenia, and Hungary.
18 July - 1 August 2010 The third CSAS/Utrecht Network Summer School attracted 45 students from all over the world. Twelve international experts, teaching 5 modules, dedicated themselves to an interdisciplinary examination of the Americas in this intensive 2-week course. The organisational team was proud to welcome a considerably increased number of participants this year, students as well as faculty, which can be attributed to the successful development of the now established field of Inter-American Studies within the Summer School. 12.-.26 July 2009 During the second Utrecht Network Summer School at Seggau Castle, an international group of students and staff examined a wide range of Inter-American topics. In four seminars (1 Film & Society, 2 Literature, 3 Politics: Law & Security, 4 Environment: Urban & Regional Development) students discussed the Americas from various vantage points as one hemispheric region. The aim was to stimulate the dialogue between the different nations of the Americas as well as change the European perspective of the Western hemisphere. The enthusiastic participation of students and lecturers from Europe and the Americas proves that the approach and implementation of Inter-American Studies is contemporary and academically in demand.
