This summer 77 students from 27 different countries met in Schloss Seggau to live and study together. They came for 2 weeks to attend the International Summer University at SEGGAU, an educational fun adventure for undergraduates and recent graduates interested in essential questions about politics, morality, and knowledge. Students are taught in small classes in subjects like Media and Communication, Law and Politics, Society and Culture, Economy and Innovation, History and Power, Ethics and Religion. The students share the facilities of a magnificent, green castle, and one of the most historic places in Europe. The time period of 2 weeks Graz area allows not just a chance for an academic upgrade but also an opportunity to experience the culture of Austria and life in Graz as well. For those who are interested in a specific topic, SEGGAU summer offers the chance to learn a subject in more depth, than the usual school year may allow. One of the biggest reasons for this is the different style of teaching. On Summer school SEGGAU there are professors from USA, Canada, Austria, Italy and ect. As a student from Macedonia, this is of tremendous importance for me, because it helps me to improve the way I learn, by seeing different perspectives and methods of teaching and acquiring knowledge. Summer school SEGGAU also offers something else unique in academic terms, and that is the diversity in one class. Having people from all around Europe and North America, helps you to see some issues from different point of view. The input from the students about different issues and attitudes towards certain topics helps a person to understand that we live in a diverse world. The general atmosphere of the summer school also seems to have an effect on student learning. Compared to the conventional school year, SEGGAU summerprogram offers smaller classes, more individualizedinstruction, and a more relaxed learning atmosphere. Shortly said, SEGGAU offers formal learning in an informal way, which is completely a new way of learning for most of the students. The SEGGAU summer school represents an example, how a summer school should looks like. One of the causes is that the professors are willing to work outside the academic class, individually or in small groups with the students. Programs that provide small groups or individualized instruction like this summer school produce the largest effect on student learning. Beside the engagement from the professor’s side, most of the students as well are happy, because they know that there is someone who is really close to them, and available to hear their problems for most of the time during the day. Alongside the good academic program and location, the organizers and participants are significant factor for making this summer school first of all possible, and then fun and unforgettable. Socializing with the other participants represents important part of this summer school, and the organizers are aware about this. That is way the first two days are devoted completely to group work, ice-breaking and team-building activities, Do not hesitate to apply for SEGGAU summer school, and to have memorable two weeks of your life fulfilled with fun, knowledge, and new friendships.
